Why Istanbul?

Istanbul, live since 2025, is in IST1 in Maslak, the business district on the city's European bank. We joined DE-CIX Istanbul with Arelion as our single carrier, and the first test instance answered Vienna at 15 ms — a number that settled the continent question the way only a round trip can: from here, Europe is close and Asia is closer.

The site carries 0.26 Tbit/s of edge capacity at a 3 ms local median, with 34 ms to Frankfurt, 41 to Dubai and 78 to Mumbai. It is where two continents meet the IX: a rack for the region between the EU and the Gulf that used to route its traffic through both, and now needs neither.

Questions about Istanbul

The two answers people actually ask about this site, then the five we give everywhere.

This site

Is Istanbul in Europe or Asia for latency purposes?
Both, which is the point of the site: the rack sits on the European bank of the Bosphorus, and from there Frankfurt answers at 34 ms while Dubai answers at 41. No other site in the catalogue splits its fast paths across two continents this evenly — 15 ms to Vienna for the EU side and 78 ms to Mumbai for the east. That is what 'between' looks like when it is measured.
Istanbul or Dubai for the Middle East?
Draw the line at the Gulf. Dubai reaches Riyadh at 14 ms and Mumbai at 33, and remains the hub for the Gulf states proper — but it needs 91 ms to reach Frankfurt. Istanbul reaches Frankfurt at 34 ms and Vienna at 15, which makes it the right site when your users sit in Türkiye, the Caucasus or the Balkans, or when your traffic wants one foot in Europe's latency and one in the Gulf's.

Everywhere

Which region should I pick?
Measure, then read. Median RTT decides most cases: pick the site closest to the users you already have, then check the local law if that matters to your data. We do not charge a regional premium, so the decision is never financial.
Is the price the same in every location?
Yes. A Nano costs €1.90 per month in Frankfurt and in São Paulo. There is no regional pricing tier, no 'emerging market' discount and no 'premium location' markup to optimise around.
Can I move a server to another site later?
Take a snapshot, deploy the same image at the destination, restore, update the DNS. The console does not yet automate the migration end-to-end, but nothing about the price changes if you redeploy somewhere else.
Is DDoS protection included?
Standard volumetric filtering is always on and always free at every site. If you need application-layer scrubbing with custom rules, the Advanced tier costs €3.90 per month per server.
What IP addresses do I get?
Every server ships with one dedicated IPv4 and a routed /64 of IPv6, both announced from the site you chose. Additional IPv4s are €1.20 per month each, up to eight per server.

Payments from Türkiye

Orders from Türkiye are handled exactly like every other order: checkout in euros, payment in Bitcoin, Monero or any of twenty-four assets, and the server provisions on the first network confirmation. No card, no bank, no name that has to match one.

Two decisions, then a network

Pick a size, pick a site, pay in crypto. Moving later is one snapshot and a redeploy away.
